How residential dumpster rental in Burlington works
Three steps. You tell us what is going in and where the bin can stand. A truck sets the empty bin on that spot, and later a truck takes it away full. Nobody usually has to be at the house for either visit. We need the exact spot, and room for the truck to get to it.
Our yard is in Mississauga, and the trucks that serve Burlington also go to Oakville, Milton, Hamilton, Toronto and Caledon.
01
Tell us about the job
Call or email with what you are clearing, where the bin can stand, and when you need it.
02
The bin arrives
A truck sets the bin down where you asked. Nothing is emptied at your place: you or your crew fill it when it suits you.
03
It leaves full
The truck takes the whole bin away, and the load is weighed at the dump.
How much does disposal bin rental in Burlington cost?
Bin rentals from $718, before HST, for a 14 yard bin of household and renovation waste. There are two bills, from two different places. If the bin needs the City’s dumpster permit, the City charges for it and you pay the City. Everything else is the rental, and a Burlington address adds nothing to it.
On the rental, the bin size and what goes in set the price. With household and renovation waste, the price includes some weight: 2 tonnes for a 14 yard bin, 3 tonnes for a 30 yard and 4 tonnes for a 40 yard. The full bin is weighed at the dump, and each tonne over what the price includes is added. The fill line marked on each bin shows how high to load it. Going over it costs extra, and so does keeping a bin past 7 days.
If the driver has no room to set the bin down on the day, that is a failed delivery. Bin rental prices lists it with the other extra charges.

How to keep a Burlington bin rental cheap
Start with the City’s dumpster permit, because none of it applies to a bin on your own land. There is then no permit fee, damage deposit or insurance certificate at all. If there is room anywhere inside the property line, that is where the bin should go.
Pick the smallest bin the job fits in, since a second bin is a second charge, and a heavy load costs no less in a bigger bin. Keep a concrete or soil load clean, so it stays at its one flat price. And plan the days: only the days past the 7 included cost extra.
Can a bin go on your driveway in Burlington?
Yes. The City’s own permit puts the driveway first: its conditions for a dumpster on the road say the applicant has already pursued every option on site, such as the driveway or the front lawn. On your own land, within the property line, a bin needs no City permit. The end of a Burlington driveway by the curb can be City land, and a bin there needs the City’s permit, so find the property line before you pick the spot.
The City’s permits page says that temporarily placing a dumpster bin on a public roadway needs a City permit.
The applicant puts up the warning signs, flashing lights and barriers that Ontario’s traffic rules call for. The application can go in by email, and the City issues permits at City Hall, 426 Brant Street, from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 4:00 p.m. Each permit is good for one placement, on the date it was issued.
The City’s Director of Transportation Services decides whether a road can take the bin. The decision weighs the road’s width, how far drivers can see, traffic, people on foot and emergency vehicles.
Right now the permit is yours to apply for, not Big Bin’s.
Some main roads in Burlington are Halton Region’s, and the City’s permit applies only to roadways under the City of Burlington’s jurisdiction. A Regional road needs the Region’s own permit, with its own fees and deposit. That permit does not mention bins. Halton shows its roads on a map rather than in a list, and its roads page sends a problem on a Regional road to 311. So call 311 to check a road, and to ask whether Halton will issue its permit for a bin.
| City of Burlington | Halton Region | |
|---|---|---|
| Notice before the date | At least five working days; the City needs two of them to process it | At least 30 business days for review |
| What it charges | $71.54 source [1] per permit, with no HST | $111.76 source [6] plus at least two inspections at $149.33 source [6] each |
| Deposit | $500 source [1] damage deposit, each time | $5,306.00 source [6], refundable |
| Insurance | $2,000,000 source [2] at least, with the City named on the policy | $5 million source [4] at least, with the Region named on the policy |

Where is the dump in Burlington, and when is it open?
A Burlington household can take a load to the Region’s own waste site, the Halton Waste Management Site at 5400 Regional Road 25, which is Halton’s landfill. It is open Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and on Sundays in May and June from 8 a.m. to noon. It closes for nine holidays, including Good Friday, the Civic Holiday and Thanksgiving. Clean fill comes in from household vehicles only, and unreinforced brick, concrete or rubble as small loads, each at a flat charge per load. Brick, concrete or rubble with rebar or wire mesh in it, or in pieces over a square foot, is taken as garbage, by the tonne. The site takes credit and debit cards, not cash.
Asbestos needs the site’s OK first; ask for it through 311. Loads should arrive sorted by material, and an open load should be tied down with rope or covered with a tarp. Staff there may not help you unload, so bring someone along for heavy items.
For what a rented bin takes, item by item, read What can go in a bin.
Moving soil can need a City permit too. Burlington’s Site Alteration By-law covers adding soil, levelling the ground and digging, and its own checklist decides. Soil and fill disposal explains the rules for soil that leaves a site.
| What you have | Where it goes | On what terms |
|---|---|---|
| A carload of renovation waste | The Halton Waste Management Site | $10/load source [7] up to 150 kg; above that, $221/tonne source [7] on the whole load |
| Electronics, or up to ten tires a day | The same site | Free |
| Soil with nothing else in it, by the bin | A 14 yard bin from Big Bin | One flat price, with no weight charge |
Garbage and junk removal in Burlington
In Burlington, a rented bin takes the junk from a clear-out and the waste from a renovation together: furniture, mattresses, household contents, scrap metal, drywall, cabinets, tile and branches. If something is unusual, call 416-458-4324 before the bin arrives. To choose between a bin and junk removal, see Bin rental or junk removal?
Burlington’s garbage goes out to the curb every other week, and Halton Region collects it. Right now, each pickup takes up to 3 bags or cans without tags, none over 23 kg, and with garbage tags a household can set out as many as 6. Wheeled carts will take over from bags between April 2027 and spring 2028, in two phases.
Furniture, mattresses wrapped in plastic and other bulky items are picked up with the garbage, no more than 3 of them every other week, and they go to landfill. Building and demolition debris is not taken as a bulky item.
Yard waste pickup in Burlington
In urban Burlington, Halton Region picks up yard waste on garbage day, between the first week of April and the second week of December. Leaves, twigs, sticks and trimmings from trees, the yard and the garden all go out this way, and grass clippings go out with it from October to May.
Halton takes it in paper yard waste bags, or in rigid, open containers with a yard waste label and no lid. Keep each one to 125 litres and 50 pounds or less. Brush goes in tied bundles up to 2 m long and 1 m wide, its branches 7.5 cm thick at most, and nothing goes to the curb more than one day early.
Will your load weigh more than the bin includes before it is full?
The price of household and renovation waste depends on what it weighs at the dump, not just on the space it takes. Measure your pile, give our free weight calculator its length, width and height, and it works out roughly how many tonnes you have.
Which disposal bin size suits a Burlington job?
All three of our bins come to Burlington: 14, 30 or 40 yard. Two questions pick the size: what is going in, and how much of it there is.
What is going in comes first. Concrete and soil each go in a 14 yard bin of their own, never together, and either one is priced flat, with no charge for weight. Keep them clean too: if anything else is in with them, the bin is not taken away. If you have filled the bin by the time that is found, a charge applies as well. Asphalt is not a material Big Bin takes, in any bin size. Big Bin does not take contaminated soil. To see why concrete gets its own bin, read Concrete disposal.
How much comes second. A garage clear-out or a basement of old furniture fills a bin by space, not by weight. If a bin fills up before the job is done, a second bin costs extra, so leave some room when you choose. To compare the three bins side by side, see the Bin size guide.
The 40 yard bin, our largest dumpster
The 40 yard is the largest dumpster we rent in Burlington, with the most room and the most weight included. It takes up no more ground than the 30 yard: the extra room is in its height. For its measurements, the weight that comes with it and the jobs it suits, see 40 yard bin rental.
How big is each bin?
| Bin | Measurements | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| 14 yard | 4'1" high × 11'6" long × 7'6" wide | Gutting a bathroom or kitchen, a garage clear-out, one room taken down to the wall frame. |
| 30 yard | 5'4" high × 20' long × 7'6" wide | A full renovation, taking off a roof, clearing out a house, a mid-size demolition. |
| 40 yard | 7' high × 20' long × 7'6" wide | A whole-house renovation, fitting out a store or office, a long building job. |
Before a bin comes to your Burlington address, look at the way in as well as the spot. The truck needs about 25 feet of headroom to lift its bed, 10 feet of width and 65 feet of straight, clear space to back in. These are rough numbers, so call and describe the spot if yours is tighter.

Construction bin rental in Burlington
On a Burlington construction site, a bin full of household and renovation waste can be swapped for an empty bin of that size. With household waste, the empty bin comes with the same weight included as the first one, and its own 7 days on site, counted from the swap. Each household-waste swap is billed as one trip for a bin that size, never as another rental. There is no swap rate for clean concrete or clean soil, so every bin of either after the first costs the full price again.
If the bin stands on a City road, every exchange is a new placement for the City’s dumpster permit. Each one needs a fresh permit, deposit and notice.
Bin rental for contractors sets out how swaps work on a long job. Construction bin rental helps when the waste changes as the build goes on. Running several Burlington jobs, or managing a building? See Commercial bin and dumpster rental.
Renting a bin in Burlington: common questions
Do I need a permit for a bin in Burlington?
Yes, on a City road. Burlington has a permit made for exactly this: the Permit for Temporary, Short Term Placement of Dumpster Bins on Public Roadways. Each permit covers one placement on the date it was issued, and a bin that comes back or moves along the street needs a new one. The applicant needs liability insurance of at least $2,000,000 source [2], with the City named on the policy. The City’s Director of Transportation Services has the final say on whether the road can take the bin. The permit only covers roads the City controls; a Halton Region road needs the Region’s own process. A bin on your own property, inside the property line, needs no permit at all. At the moment, the customer applies for the City’s permit, not Big Bin.
Where is the dump in Burlington?
At the Halton Waste Management Site, 5400 Regional Road 25, the Region’s own waste site, open Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Garbage, drywall, shingles and wood cost $10/load source [7] for a load of 150 kilograms or less. A heavier load is charged $221/tonne source [7] on its whole weight. Electronics are free, and so are tires, up to ten a day.
How much does dumpster bin rental cost in Burlington?
Bin rentals from $718, before HST, for a 14 yard bin of household and renovation waste. That price includes delivery, pickup and 7 days. Weight over what a bin includes adds to it, and so do a load above the fill line and a bin kept longer. The price is the same anywhere in Burlington. If the bin has to stand on a City road, the City’s dumpster permit costs $71.54 source [1], and the City takes a $500 source [1] damage deposit each time. Get your own price online.
What can go in a bin in Burlington?
Furniture, mattresses, household contents, wood, drywall, cabinets, tile, carpet, roofing shingles, scrap metal, fencing and branches can go in a bin of household and renovation waste. Asphalt is not a material Big Bin takes, in any bin size. Big Bin does not take contaminated soil. Paint, propane tanks, batteries and tires stay out of the bin and go to a drop-off of their own. Burlington households can take paint and other household hazardous waste to the Halton site free, 20 litres a day at most. If something is unusual, call 416-458-4324 before the bin arrives. For the rest, item by item, see What can go in a bin.
Do you rent commercial bins in Burlington?
Yes. Big Bin rents the same 14, 30 and 40 yard roll-off bins to businesses and buildings in Burlington, one bin or one job at a time. See Commercial bin and dumpster rental.
