How much does disposal bin rental in Oakville cost?
Bin rentals from $718, before HST, for a 14 yard bin of household and renovation waste. There are two bills, from two different places. If the bin needs the Town’s Temporary Street Occupation permit, the Town charges for it and you pay the Town. Everything else is the rental, and an Oakville address adds nothing to it.
On the rental, the bin size and what goes in set the price. With household and renovation waste, the price includes some weight: 2 tonnes for a 14 yard bin, 3 tonnes for a 30 yard and 4 tonnes for a 40 yard. The full bin is weighed at the dump, and each tonne over what the price includes is added. The fill line marked on each bin shows how high to load it. Going over it costs extra, and so does keeping a bin past 7 days.
If the driver has no room to set the bin down on the day, that is a failed delivery. Bin rental prices lists it with the other extra charges.

Can a bin go on your driveway in Oakville?
Yes, on your own land. The Town’s right-of-way by-law reaches only land owned by the Town as opened or unopened road allowances, so a container inside your property line needs no Town permit. The end of the driveway nearest the street can still be Town land.
On a Town road, a bin needs the Town’s Temporary Street Occupation permit. The by-law governing the road allowance prohibits placing equipment or materials of any kind upon or within a municipal right of way without one, and the procedure that issues the permit carries a numbered section headed “Disposal bins”.
Under that section, a bin may not take up any part of a sidewalk, pathway or walkway, or sit where it endangers people using the road. It has to be set out to Ontario’s traffic-control rules, which can mean warning signs and barriers around it, and between sunset and sunrise a flasher barricade is required at each end of the bin.
The application goes in ahead of the date, and the Town’s 2026 rates schedule lists a bin under minor occupation, charged per application each calendar year and again for each day on the road. A permit is issued only for the stretch of road allowance in front of the applicant’s own property, unless the neighbour has given written consent.
Some main roads in Oakville are Halton Region’s, not the Town’s, and the Town’s permit does not apply on them. Halton marks its roads on a map instead of naming them in a list. Its own road occupancy permit does not mention bins. Call 311, where the Region’s roads page sends a problem on a Regional road, to check a road and ask if Halton will issue its own permit for a bin.

Where is the dump in Oakville, and when is it open?
Oakville’s dump is the Halton Waste Management Site, the Region’s landfill, at 5400 Regional Road 25 in Milton. Its gate is open from Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., and on May and June Sundays from 8 a.m. until noon. It is closed on New Year’s Day, Family Day, Good Friday, Victoria Day, Canada Day, Civic Holiday, Labour Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day, and takes debit and credit cards but no cash.
Household garbage, drywall, shingles and wood pay a flat fee for a small load and a rate by the tonne for a bigger one, counted on the whole load. Any brick, concrete or rubble that has rebar or wire mesh in it, or comes in a piece bigger than one square foot, is weighed and charged as garbage. A dump-truck load of brick, concrete or rubble must be approved by the site beforehand, and so must asbestos; ask for approval by calling 311.
Clean soil and sod are taken only from a household’s own vehicle, such as a pickup truck or a trailer. The site’s staff are not allowed to help unload, so bring help for anything heavy.
Some loads cost nothing. Household hazardous waste such as old paint is free, up to 20 litres a household a day, and so are electronics and as many as ten tires a day.

Halton Region empties Oakville’s garbage at the curb every other week. Right now, a household may set out 3 bags or cans, none heavier than 23 kg, or 6 when 3 of them carry garbage tags. Carts on wheels replace the bags in two phases, between April 2027 and spring 2028.
Couches and other furniture, flooring, carpet and toilets go out as bulk waste on garbage day, up to 3 pieces every other week. Mattresses and box springs have to be wrapped in plastic, and wood has to be taken apart and tied in bundles no bigger than 1.7 m by 1 m. What Halton collects as bulk waste goes to landfill, and building and demolition debris is not taken with it.

Which dumpster bin size suits an Oakville job?

Can yard waste go in a bin in Oakville?

Brick goes in with other household and renovation waste, but it is heavy for its size: the price includes 2 to 4 tonnes of weight, by bin size, and each tonne over that costs extra.
