How residential bin rental in Markham works

Three steps. You tell us what is going in and where the bin can stand. A truck sets the empty bin on that spot, and later a truck takes it away full. Nobody usually has to be at the house for either visit. We need the exact spot, and room for the truck to get to it.

Our yard is in Mississauga, and the trucks that serve Markham also go to Richmond Hill, Vaughan, Toronto, Pickering, Aurora and Newmarket.

  1. 01

    Tell us about the job

Call or email with what you are clearing, where the bin can stand, and when you need it.

  2. 02

    The bin arrives

A truck sets the bin down where you asked. Nothing is emptied at your place: you or your crew fill it when it suits you.

  3. 03

    It leaves full

The truck takes the whole bin away, and the load is weighed at the dump.

How much does garbage bin rental in Markham cost?

Bin rentals from $718, before HST, for a 14 yard bin of household and renovation waste. There are two bills, from two different places. If the bin needs the City’s road occupancy permit, the City charges for it and you pay the City. Everything else is the rental, and a Markham address adds nothing to it.

On the rental, the bin size and what goes in set the price. With household and renovation waste, the price includes some weight: 2 tonnes for a 14 yard bin, 3 tonnes for a 30 yard and 4 tonnes for a 40 yard. The full bin is weighed at the dump, and each tonne over what the price includes is added. The fill line marked on each bin shows how high to load it. Going over it costs extra, and so does keeping a bin past 7 days.

If the driver has no room to set the bin down on the day, that is a failed delivery. Bin rental prices lists it with the other extra charges.

To see each charge explained, read Bin and dumpster rental cost. Our free weight calculator gives a rough weight for your pile. To see your own price, with tax included, get a quote online.

Can a bin go on your driveway in Markham?

Yes, on your own land. Markham’s road occupancy by-law counts the boulevard, from your property line to the curb, as part of the road, so the street end of your driveway can be City land.

On a City street or boulevard, a bin needs the City’s road occupancy permit. The application goes in with a traffic control plan and drawings of the work.

Some of Markham’s main roads belong to York Region, not the City. York marks each of its roads with a numbered Regional road sign, and for a bin on one of those, ask the Region.

Right now, getting the permit is up to you; Big Bin does not take out street permits.

Where is the dump in Markham?

None of the drop-off sites York Region runs for household garbage is in Markham. Its one site in the city, the household hazardous waste depot at 430 Rodick Road, takes no garbage. Household garbage and renovation waste go to York’s two Community Environmental Centres instead: Elgin Mills, at 1124 Elgin Mills Road East, and McCleary Court, at 130 McCleary Court.

The City of Markham’s four recycling depots take no garbage either: they take alkaline batteries, electronics, ink cartridges, scrap metal and textiles.

Both centres take concrete, drywall and untreated wood as well as garbage, each for a fee, and McCleary Court takes yard waste too. Vehicles are weighed to work out what you owe, and if a load holds anything that carries a fee, the fee covers the whole load. Pay with cash, debit, American Express, Mastercard or Visa, and bring proof that you live in York Region. Elgin Mills takes nothing from a vehicle bigger than a 16-foot cube truck.

Garbage and junk removal in Markham

In Markham, a rented bin takes the junk from a clear-out and the waste from a renovation together: furniture, mattresses, household contents, scrap metal, drywall, cabinets, tile and branches. If something is unusual, call 416-458-4324 before the bin arrives. To choose between a bin and junk removal, see Bin rental or junk removal?

Right now, the City of Markham picks up household garbage at the curb: it goes out in clear bags every other week, on your regular collection day, by 7 a.m. or after 7 p.m. the night before. Renovation material is not collected at the curb.

Furniture, mattress and appliance removal in Markham

Right now, the City of Markham picks up broken furniture and mattresses at the curb every other week on your clear bag garbage day, with no appointment needed. Up to three items can go out each time, such as couches, chairs, mattresses and box springs, or a toilet with its tank taken off the bowl.

A broken appliance goes by appointment: the City collects fridges, stoves, washers, dryers, dishwashers and water heaters once a month, for $18.50 source [14] each in 2026, booked and paid for by phone. Take the doors off a fridge or freezer before it goes out.

Large metal items, such as bicycles, bed frames, barbecues with the propane tank removed and lawn mowers with the fuel removed, go once a month by appointment too, and right now the City charges nothing for metal items.

Yard waste pickup in Markham

Right now, the City of Markham picks up leaves and yard material every other week, starting in April, on your regular collection day. It takes leaves, shrubs, twigs and branches, weeds, pumpkins and garden plants.

Set it out in Kraft paper bags, or open rigid containers such as a garbage can with no lid; plastic bags and cardboard boxes are not picked up. Tie brush in bundles under 1.2 metres long, with no branch more than 15 cm across. The pickup leaves grass clippings, sod, dirt, gravel, topsoil and stones behind.

Will a Markham load weigh more than the bin includes?

Brick, wet drywall and roofing shingles add weight fast. Give our free weight calculator the length, width and height of the pile, and it works out a rough weight in tonnes, so you know before booking whether your load will pass what your bin includes.

Which disposal bin size suits a Markham job?

All three of our bins come to Markham: 14, 30 or 40 yard. Two questions pick the size: what is going in, and how much of it there is.

What is going in comes first. Concrete and soil each go in a 14 yard bin of their own, never together, and either one is priced flat, with no charge for weight. Keep them clean too: if anything else is in with them, the bin is not taken away. If you have filled the bin by the time that is found, a charge applies as well. Asphalt is not a material Big Bin takes, in any bin size. Big Bin does not take contaminated soil. To see why concrete gets its own bin, read Concrete disposal.

How much comes second. A garage clear-out or a basement of old furniture fills a bin by space, not by weight. If a bin fills up before the job is done, a second bin costs extra, so leave some room when you choose. To compare the three bins side by side, see the Bin size guide.

How big is each bin?

How big is each bin?

30 yard5'4" high × 20' long × 7'6" wideA full renovation, taking off a roof, clearing out a house, a mid-size demolition.
40 yard7' high × 20' long × 7'6" wideA whole-house renovation, fitting out a store or office, a long building job.

Before a bin comes to your Markham address, look at the way in as well as the spot. The truck needs about 25 feet of headroom to lift its bed, 10 feet of width and 65 feet of straight, clear space to back in. These are rough numbers, so call and describe the spot if yours is tighter.

Construction bin rental in Markham

On a Markham construction site, a bin full of household and renovation waste can be swapped for an empty bin of that size. With household waste, the empty bin comes with the same weight included as the first one, and its own 7 days on site, counted from the swap. Each household-waste swap is billed as one trip for a bin that size, never as another rental. There is no swap rate for clean concrete or clean soil, so every bin of either after the first costs the full price again.

A site bin set on a City road or boulevard in Markham needs the City’s road occupancy permit first.

Bin rental for contractors sets out how swaps work on a long job. Construction bin rental helps when the waste changes as the build goes on. Running several Markham jobs, or managing a building? See Commercial bin and dumpster rental.

Bin rental in Markham: common questions

Do I need a permit for a bin in Markham?

Not on your own land, though the stretch of a driveway nearest the road can be City land. On a City road or boulevard, yes: a bin there needs the City’s road occupancy permit, which takes a minimum of ten business days to process. On a York Region road, ask the Region. Right now, the application is yours to make; Big Bin does not take out street permits.

Where is the dump in Markham?

None of York Region’s drop-off sites for household garbage is in Markham: its one site in the city, the household hazardous waste depot at 430 Rodick Road, takes none. For garbage, York’s Community Environmental Centres are at 1124 Elgin Mills Road East and 130 McCleary Court, open Wednesday to Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Sunday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. A load up to 100 kg costs $11 source [10], and a load over 100 kg, $180 source [10] a tonne. Bring proof that you live in York Region.

How much does dumpster bin rental cost in Markham?

Bin rentals from $718, before HST, for a 14 yard bin of household and renovation waste. That price includes delivery, pickup and 7 days. Weight over what a bin includes adds to it, and so do a load above the fill line and a bin kept longer. The price is the same anywhere in Markham. Get your own price online.

What can go in a bin in Markham?

Furniture, mattresses, household contents, wood, drywall, cabinets, tile, carpet, roofing shingles, scrap metal, fencing and branches can go in a bin of household and renovation waste. Asphalt is not a material Big Bin takes, in any bin size. Big Bin does not take contaminated soil. Paint, propane tanks, batteries and tires stay out of the bin and go to a drop-off of their own. In Markham, York Region’s depot at 430 Rodick Road takes household hazardous waste from residents at no charge. If something is unusual, call 416-458-4324 before the bin arrives. For the rest, item by item, see What can go in a bin.

Do you rent commercial bins in Markham?

Yes. Big Bin rents the same 14, 30 and 40 yard roll-off bins to businesses and buildings in Markham, one bin or one job at a time. See Commercial bin and dumpster rental.

Can yard waste go in a bin in Markham?

A bin of household and renovation waste takes fencing, decking, sod, branches and brick from a landscaping job. Brick goes in with other household and renovation waste, but it is heavy for its size: the price includes 2 to 4 tonnes of weight, by bin size, and each tonne over that costs extra. Brick uses up that weight fast.

Can I rent a bin for clean fill or concrete in Markham?

Yes. Clean soil, or clean concrete, each goes in a 14 yard bin of its own, with nothing else in it. In Markham, dumping fill, removing topsoil or changing the grade of land needs a site alteration permit from the City unless the by-law exempts the work. A lot under one acre is exempt when it is not within 30 metres of the City’s Natural Heritage Network, though the work still must not change how water drains onto the lots next door. Adding or removing up to five cubic metres of topsoil on a lot is outside the by-law.
