How disposal bin rental in Milton works

Three steps. You tell us what is going in and where the bin can stand. A truck sets the empty bin on that spot, and later a truck takes it away full. Nobody usually has to be at the house for either visit. We need the exact spot, and room for the truck to get to it.

Our yard is in Mississauga, and the trucks that serve Milton also go to Oakville, Burlington, Hamilton, Caledon, Brampton and Toronto.

  1. 01

    Tell us about the job

Call or email with what you are clearing, where the bin can stand, and when you need it.

  2. 02

    The bin arrives

A truck sets the bin down where you asked. Nothing is emptied at your place: you or your crew fill it when it suits you.

  3. 03

    It leaves full

The truck takes the whole bin away, and the load is weighed at the dump.

How much does garbage bin rental in Milton cost?

Bin rentals from $718, before HST, for a 14 yard bin of household and renovation waste. There are two bills, from two different places. If the bin needs the Town’s road occupancy permit, the Town charges for it and you pay the Town. Everything else is the rental, and a Milton address adds nothing to it.

On the rental, the bin size and what goes in set the price. With household and renovation waste, the price includes some weight: 2 tonnes for a 14 yard bin, 3 tonnes for a 30 yard and 4 tonnes for a 40 yard. The full bin is weighed at the dump, and each tonne over what the price includes is added. The fill line marked on each bin shows how high to load it. Going over it costs extra, and so does keeping a bin past 7 days.

If the driver has no room to set the bin down on the day, that is a failed delivery. Bin rental prices lists it with the other extra charges.

Can a bin go on your driveway in Milton?

Yes. The Town’s own permit form puts the driveway first: bins and pods must be placed in driveways if possible, rather than on the road.

Inside your property line, on your own land, a bin does not need the Town’s permit. Part of a Milton driveway can still be Town land, though: the stretch by the street. The Town’s road reaches right up to the property line.

The Town has an extended parking exception, from mid-April to mid-November, and one reason it lists for it is not being able to get into the driveway or garage because of a home renovation.

Whose road it is decides who you ask. The Town will not issue a permit on a Regional road, and checking whose road it is falls to the person applying. The street name may not tell you, so ask Halton Region first. The Region takes calls on 311.

On a Town road, the Town asks for a road occupancy permit before any bin storage on its roads, curbs, sidewalks or grass boulevards. Paying the permit fee does not mean a yes.

The Town decides where on the road the bin goes. Warning signs, barriers and lights around the bin are the applicant’s job.

Right now, the permit is for you to apply for: Big Bin does not file street permits.

Where is the dump in Milton, and when is it open?

The dump is right in Milton: Halton Region runs the Halton Waste Management Site, its landfill, at 5400 Regional Road 25, and a household can take a load there between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

In May and June the site opens on Sunday mornings too, until noon. It closes on nine holidays: New Year’s Day, Family Day, Good Friday, Victoria Day, Canada Day, the Civic Holiday, Labour Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Payment is by credit or debit card; cash is not taken.

Pieces of brick, concrete or rubble with rebar or mesh in them, or any piece bigger than a square foot, are taken as garbage instead, charged by weight. Clean fill, woodchips, brick, concrete and rubble have to come out of their bags or containers before they are unloaded. Yard waste and brush from a household cost a flat charge per load, and a tree trunk or stump counts as yard waste up to 2 metres long and 1 metre across.

Electronics go in free, and so do up to 10 tires a day. Asbestos needs the site’s approval first, through 311. Sort a load by material before you go, and tie or tarp it down. Staff at the site are not allowed to help you unload, so bring help for heavy things.

Garbage and junk removal in Milton

In Milton, a rented bin takes the junk from a clear-out and the waste from a renovation together: furniture, mattresses, household contents, scrap metal, drywall, cabinets, tile and branches. If something is unusual, call 416-458-4324 before the bin arrives. To choose between a bin and junk removal, see Bin rental or junk removal?

Halton Region removes Milton’s household garbage at the curb, every other week on your collection day. Right now, up to 3 bags or cans go out each time, each no heavier than 23 kg, and garbage tags let you put out up to 6. Halton is replacing the bags with wheeled carts, in two phases, from April 2027 to spring 2028.

Bulky items, such as furniture and mattresses wrapped in plastic, go out with the garbage, up to 3 items every other week, and go to landfill. The bulk pickup does not take building and demolition debris.

Yard waste pickup in Milton

Halton Region picks up yard waste in Milton on your regular garbage day, from the first week of April to the second week of December, in urban areas only. It takes leaves, sticks and twigs, tree trimmings, and yard and garden trimmings.

Put it out in paper yard waste bags, or open, labelled, reusable rigid containers with no lid, each up to 125 litres and no heavier than 50 pounds. Tie brush in bundles no bigger than 2 metres by 1 metre, with no branch thicker than 7.5 cm. Set it at the curb no more than a day before pickup.

Will your Milton load weigh more than the bin includes?

Old flooring, drywall and roofing get heavy fast. Put the length, width and height of your pile into our free weight calculator, and it gives you a rough weight in tonnes. That shows what the extra weight could add before you book.

Which dumpster bin size suits a Milton job?

All three of our bins come to Milton: 14, 30 or 40 yard. Two questions pick the size: what is going in, and how much of it there is.

What is going in comes first. Concrete and soil each go in a 14 yard bin of their own, never together, and either one is priced flat, with no charge for weight. Keep them clean too: if anything else is in with them, the bin is not taken away. If you have filled the bin by the time that is found, a charge applies as well. Asphalt is not a material Big Bin takes, in any bin size. Big Bin does not take contaminated soil. To see why concrete gets its own bin, read Concrete disposal.

How much comes second. A garage clear-out or a basement of old furniture fills a bin by space, not by weight. If a bin fills up before the job is done, a second bin costs extra, so leave some room when you choose. To compare the three bins side by side, see the Bin size guide.

The 40 yard bin, our largest dumpster

The 40 yard is the largest dumpster we rent in Milton, with the most room and the most weight included. It takes up no more ground than the 30 yard: the extra room is in its height. For its measurements, the weight that comes with it and the jobs it suits, see 40 yard bin rental.

How big is each bin?

How big is each bin?

30 yard5'4" high × 20' long × 7'6" wideA full renovation, taking off a roof, clearing out a house, a mid-size demolition.
40 yard7' high × 20' long × 7'6" wideA whole-house renovation, fitting out a store or office, a long building job.

Before a bin comes to your Milton address, look at the way in as well as the spot. The truck needs about 25 feet of headroom to lift its bed, 10 feet of width and 65 feet of straight, clear space to back in. These are rough numbers, so call and describe the spot if yours is tighter.

Construction dumpster rental in Milton

On a Milton construction site, a bin full of household and renovation waste can be swapped for an empty bin of that size. With household waste, the empty bin comes with the same weight included as the first one, and its own 7 days on site, counted from the swap. Each household-waste swap is billed as one trip for a bin that size, never as another rental. There is no swap rate for clean concrete or clean soil, so every bin of either after the first costs the full price again.

A site bin that has to stand on a Town road needs the Town’s road occupancy permit. The Town allows no loose materials on the road. On a new street the Town has not taken over yet, the Town will not approve a permit without the developer’s OK. Ask the developer before you plan a spot on the road.

Bin rental for contractors sets out how swaps work on a long job. Construction bin rental helps when the waste changes as the build goes on. Running several Milton jobs, or managing a building? See Commercial bin and dumpster rental.

Renting a bin in Milton: common questions

Do I need a permit for a bin in Milton?

Yes, on a Town road. The Town of Milton needs a road occupancy permit before any bin is stored on its road, and that includes the curb, the sidewalk and the grass boulevard. The Town decides where on the road the bin goes. The applicant needs liability insurance of at least $5 million source [3], with the Town named on the policy. A bin on your own land, inside the property line, does not need the Town’s permit. Part of a driveway, the stretch by the street, can still be Town land. Right now, you apply for the permit yourself, not Big Bin. The Town issues no permit on a Regional road, so for one of those, ask Halton on 311 first.

Where is the dump in Milton?

What can go in a bin in Milton?

Furniture, mattresses, household contents, wood, drywall, cabinets, tile, carpet, roofing shingles, scrap metal, fencing and branches can go in a bin of household and renovation waste.
