How dumpster bin rental in Scarborough works

Three steps. You tell us what is going in and where the bin can stand. A truck sets the empty bin on that spot, and later a truck takes it away full. Nobody usually has to be at the house for either visit. We need the exact spot, and room for the truck to get to it.

Our yard is in Mississauga, and the trucks that serve Scarborough also go to North York, Etobicoke, Markham and Pickering.

  1. 01

    Tell us about the job

Call or email with what you are clearing, where the bin can stand, and when you need it.

  2. 02

    The bin arrives

A truck sets the bin down where you asked. Nothing is emptied at your place: you or your crew fill it when it suits you.

  3. 03

    It leaves full

The truck takes the whole bin away, and the load is weighed at the dump.

How much does garbage bin rental in Scarborough cost?

Bin rentals from $718, before HST, for a 14 yard bin of household and renovation waste. There are two bills, from two different places. If the bin needs a City Street Occupation Permit, the City charges for it and you pay the City. Everything else is the rental, and a Scarborough address adds nothing to it.

On the rental, the bin size and what goes in set the price. With household and renovation waste, the price includes some weight: 2 tonnes for a 14 yard bin, 3 tonnes for a 30 yard and 4 tonnes for a 40 yard. The full bin is weighed at the dump, and each tonne over what the price includes is added. The fill line marked on each bin shows how high to load it. Going over it costs extra, and so does keeping a bin past 7 days.

If the driver has no room to set the bin down on the day, that is a failed delivery. Bin rental prices lists it with the other extra charges.

How to keep a Scarborough bin rental cheap

In Scarborough, a bin set on your own land needs no City permit, so there is no daily fee. On the road or in a lane, the City bills a disposal bin by the day.

Pick the smallest bin the job fits in, since a second bin is a second charge, and a heavy load costs no less in a bigger bin. Keep a concrete or soil load clean, so it stays at its one flat price. And plan the days: only the days past the 7 included cost extra.

Can a bin go on your driveway in Scarborough?

Yes. On your own land, no City permit is needed for a bin. In Scarborough, the strip of driveway beside the curb can be City land, because the City’s street runs from the road to the property line.

In a Scarborough roadway or public lane, a bin needs a Street Occupation Permit. The City asks for one when a building, renovation or demolition job reaches past the property line onto the boulevard, sidewalk, road or a public lane. Its application form lists the City’s Scarborough District office, at the Scarborough Civic Centre, 150 Borough Drive, 416-396-7505.

Nowhere to put it on your Scarborough lot? Then the bin sits out on the road, or in a lane if one runs behind the house, with that permit.

For now, you get the permit yourself; Big Bin is not the one who applies.

Garbage and junk removal in Scarborough

In Scarborough, a rented bin takes the junk from a clear-out and the waste from a renovation together: furniture, mattresses, household contents, scrap metal, drywall, cabinets, tile and branches. If something is unusual, call 416-458-4324 before the bin arrives. To choose between a bin and junk removal, see Bin rental or junk removal?

For a Scarborough house on daytime collection, the City takes garbage away on alternating weeks. Garbage that won’t fit under the lid goes out beside your City garbage bin, in bags of up to 20 kg, each with a City garbage tag, which costs $6.81 source [13] in 2026.

Sofas, mattresses, fridges and other large things go out on the same day: the City picks up oversized items placed beside the garbage bin. Each home pays a yearly fee for it, $23.23 source [13] in 2026, even if it never uses it. Building waste stays off the curb: construction, demolition and renovation waste is not taken there. Wrap a mattress with bed bugs completely in plastic before it goes out.

Commissioners, 400 Commissioners Street, and Dufferin, 35 Vanley Crescent, also take mattresses that residents bring in, at $142.40 source [9] a tonne. Bring them unwrapped and unbound, unless they have bed bugs.

Which disposal bin size suits a Scarborough job?

All three of our bins come to Scarborough: 14, 30 or 40 yard. Two questions pick the size: what is going in, and how much of it there is.

What is going in comes first. Concrete and soil each go in a 14 yard bin of their own, never together, and either one is priced flat, with no charge for weight. Keep them clean too: if anything else is in with them, the bin is not taken away. If you have filled the bin by the time that is found, a charge applies as well. Asphalt is not a material Big Bin takes, in any bin size. Big Bin does not take contaminated soil. To see why concrete gets its own bin, read Concrete disposal.

How much comes second. A garage clear-out or a basement of old furniture fills a bin by space, not by weight. If a bin fills up before the job is done, a second bin costs extra, so leave some room when you choose. To compare the three bins side by side, see the Bin size guide.

How big is each bin?

40 yard7' high × 20' long × 7'6" wideA whole-house renovation, fitting out a store or office, a long building job.

Before a bin comes to your Scarborough address, look at the way in as well as the spot. The truck needs about 25 feet of headroom to lift its bed, 10 feet of width and 65 feet of straight, clear space to back in. These are rough numbers, so call and describe the spot if yours is tighter.

Renting a bin in Scarborough: common questions

Do I need a permit for a bin in Scarborough?

Not if the bin is on your own land, though where your driveway meets the road can be City land. A bin on a Scarborough road or in a public lane needs the City’s Street Occupation Permit. You apply for it yourself for now; Big Bin does not.

Where is the dump in Scarborough?

At the Scarborough Transfer Station, 1 Transfer Place: Monday to Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A load of garbage or renovation waste costs $19 source [9] up to 100 kg, then $189.86 source [9] a tonne, after a deposit of at least $40 source [9].

How much does garbage bin rental cost in Scarborough?

Bin rentals from $718, before HST, for a 14 yard bin of household and renovation waste. That price includes delivery, pickup and 7 days. Weight over what a bin includes adds to it, and so do a load above the fill line and a bin kept longer. The price is the same anywhere in Scarborough. A Scarborough road or public lane adds the City’s Street Occupation Permit, $73.89 + HST source [1] in 2026 for every day the bin is there. Get your own price online.

What can go in a bin in Scarborough?

Furniture, mattresses, household contents, wood, drywall, cabinets, tile, carpet, roofing shingles, scrap metal, fencing and branches can go in a bin of household and renovation waste. Asphalt is not a material Big Bin takes, in any bin size. Big Bin does not take contaminated soil. Paint, propane tanks, batteries and tires stay out of the bin and go to a drop-off of their own. In Scarborough, the transfer station at 1 Transfer Place takes paint and other household hazardous waste, free. If something is unusual, call 416-458-4324 before the bin arrives. For the rest, item by item, see What can go in a bin.

Can yard waste go in a bin in Scarborough?

A bin of household and renovation waste takes fencing, decking, sod, branches and brick from a landscaping job. Brick goes in with other household and renovation waste, but it is heavy for its size: the price includes 2 to 4 tonnes of weight, by bin size, and each tonne over that costs extra. Brick uses up that weight fast. In Scarborough, the City collects yard waste every other week on garbage day from around mid-March to mid-November, and its depots take it all year.
