Quick answer
Where is the Toronto dump?
Toronto’s dump is the City’s transfer stations, whose Drop-Off Depots residents can use: Bermondsey, Commissioners, Disco, Dufferin, Ingram, Scarborough and Victoria Park. Every depot opens on weekdays from 6 a.m.; Bermondsey, Ingram and Scarborough open on Saturday mornings too, and all of them close on Sundays. Garbage and renovation waste take a deposit of at least $40 source [7] up front, then cost $19 source [7] for the first 100 kg and $189.86 source [7] a tonne after that. Tie the load down and cover it, as an unsecured load is turned away.

How much does the Toronto dump cost?
Before anything comes off the vehicle, you pay a deposit of at least $40 source [7], set by the load’s estimated size and the kind of material. For garbage and renovation waste, $19 source [7] covers the first 100 kg, and after that the rate is $189.86 source [7] a tonne. In the City’s own example, 205 kg of garbage costs $38.92 source [7].
Metal and yard waste cost $142.40 source [7] a tonne, and a load under 20 kg is free, but one over 20 kg pays on all of its weight. Mattresses have cost $142.40 source [7] a tonne since 1 July 2026. Household hazardous waste and electronics are free.
The scales count in 5 kg steps, rounding each weight to the nearest 5 kg. Pay with cash, which is rounded to the nearest dollar, or by debit, Visa, Mastercard or American Express.

What can you take to the Toronto dump?
Garbage and yard waste go to any depot. For yard waste, no piece can be thicker than 7.5 cm or longer than 1.2 m, Christmas trees aside, and soil and grass are not taken. Renovation waste goes to every depot too, from baseboards, bathtubs, cabinets and countertops to doors, fencing, insulation, plaster, pressure-treated wood, roof shingles, siding and tiles, with lumber cut to 4 feet at most. Clean drywall, up to a tonne, goes only to Bermondsey, Ingram and Commissioners, and metal to Bermondsey, Commissioners, Dufferin and Ingram.
Household hazardous waste from a home goes in free at every depot but Dufferin: propane tanks, paint, household cleaners, batteries and the rest. A day’s limit is 50 litres or 50 kg in all, 20 fluorescent tubes, 100 compact fluorescent bulbs and 5 gas tanks, and a load of only hazardous waste or electronics skips the scale. The City’s Toxic Taxi picks hazardous waste up from a home, booked through 311, and Community Environment Days are held between April and the end of September.
Two things have stopped: tires are not accepted at any depot until further notice, and since 1 January 2026 the depots take recycling only from businesses, charities and institutions, so a household’s recycling goes to the curb. No depot takes ammunition, asbestos, asphalt, boats, bricks, cinder blocks, concrete, dead animals, gravel, paving stones, rocks, sod, soil, sand or stones.
| What you have | Where it goes |
|---|---|
| Garbage; yard waste | Every depot |
| Renovation waste, no drywall | Every depot |
| Clean drywall, up to a tonne | Bermondsey, Ingram, Commissioners |
| Metal, appliances included | Bermondsey, Commissioners, Dufferin, Ingram |
| Mattresses, from households | Commissioners, Dufferin |
| Household hazardous waste; electronics | Every depot but Dufferin, free |
| Tires | Not accepted until further notice |
| Recycling | From businesses, charities and institutions only |
| Bricks, concrete, asphalt, soil, rocks, asbestos | Not accepted |
Electronic waste at Toronto’s drop-off depots
Electronic waste is free at every depot but Dufferin, on the hours each one keeps for hazardous waste. The City takes TVs, monitors, e-readers, cell phones, desktop and laptop computers, tablets, keyboards and cables, printers and their cartridges, scanners, fax machines, stereos, speakers, players and projectors.
Take the batteries out first: a device with its batteries still in it is turned away, and the batteries go in as hazardous waste. Electronics can also go out on garbage day, or to a Community Environment Day.
How do you drop off waste at a Toronto depot?
Drive in: the depots need a safe motor vehicle with a secured load, and turn away walk-ins, bikes and handcarts, and every load has to arrive covered with a tarp or the like.
At the gate, you cross the scale, say what you are bringing, and pay the deposit; staff send you to the right area, you unload it yourself, and you cross the scale again, where a receipt shows the final fee and you get a refund or pay the difference.
Safety helmets and safety boots or shoes are required in designated areas. In the unloading area only the driver may get out of the vehicle, nobody may smoke, and taking anything from the piles is not allowed. The City asks you to treat a depot as an industrial site, and it takes no responsibility for damage to vehicles.
Is there a dump in North York, Etobicoke or Scarborough?
Yes. On the City’s list of depots, Bermondsey, Dufferin, Ingram and Victoria Park are in North York, Disco is in Etobicoke, and the Scarborough Transfer Station is at 1 Transfer Place in Scarborough.
Too much for one trip?
When a load is too big for a car or a trailer, Big Bin can bring a bin to the address. One price covers the delivery, the pickup and 7 days. Clean concrete or clean soil goes in a 14 yard bin of its own, with nothing else in it, for one flat price.
Big Bin delivers bins in Toronto, in 14 yard, 30 yard and 40 yard sizes.
The bin size guide shows which size a load needs, what can go in a bin checks it item by item, bin and dumpster rental cost shows what a rental includes, and roll-off bins explained covers how the truck works.
For a renovation, see construction bin rental, or weigh a bin against junk removal. Get a quote for your address and dates.
Dump hours and fees for other cities: Oshawa dump, Milton dump, Hamilton dump, York Region dump, Mississauga dump and Brampton dump.
What will your load weigh at the depot?
Renovation waste is charged by the tonne at a Toronto depot. Tell our free calculator how big your pile is and what is in it, and it estimates the weight of your load.
The Toronto dump: common questions
Is there a landfill in Toronto?
Not inside the City. Right now most of Toronto’s garbage goes to Green Lane Landfill, outside London in the Township of Southwold: the City owns it, and the garbage travels there from the transfer stations by tractor-trailer. Residents can use the City’s Drop-Off Depots for their own loads.
Is the Toronto dump open on weekends and holidays?
On Saturday, Bermondsey and Scarborough take garbage, renovation waste and yard waste from 7 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., and Ingram from midnight until 12:30 p.m.; every depot but Dufferin takes hazardous waste and electronics from 7 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Every depot is closed on Sunday. Hours may vary on holidays: every site is open on Wednesday 11 November, and closed on Friday 25 December and Friday 1 January.
Where can you dump a mattress in Toronto?
Mattresses are only accepted at the Commissioners and Dufferin locations, at 400 Commissioners Street and 35 Vanley Crescent, for $142.40 source [7] a tonne, and not in commercial loads. Bring a mattress unwrapped, unless it has bed bugs: then wrap it in plastic.
Where can you take scrap metal in Toronto?
To Bermondsey, Commissioners, Dufferin or Ingram. Metal there includes auto parts and bicycles, lawnmowers, large and small appliances, and tools, pipes and cable. A load under 20 kg is free, and one over 20 kg pays on its full weight. Take the batteries out of anything battery-powered first, and bring them as hazardous waste.
Can a business use Toronto’s transfer stations?
Yes. A business can open a Commercial Disposal Service account instead of paying each visit, bring accepted waste to any depot during regular business hours, and be invoiced monthly, after it gives the City a security deposit. Businesses, charities and institutions can bring recycling, up to a tonne, as site capacity allows (up to 200 kg at Commissioners). Mattresses are taken from households only, and free hazardous waste is for households.
