At McCleary Court, yard waste goes in for a fee: kraft paper yard bags are fine, but yard waste in plastic bags has to be emptied out at the depot. Blue box recycling goes in at no cost.
The centre is at 130 McCleary Court, Vaughan. An onsite camera shows the traffic there before you set out, with a new picture every three minutes.
Elgin Mills Community Environmental Centre
Elgin Mills is at 1124 Elgin Mills Road East, Richmond Hill, and cars now turn in from John McCrae Street, a little west of the City’s Operations Centre. A vehicle over the size of a 16-foot cube truck can’t unload there. Elgin Mills takes no yard waste.
Richmond Hill residents can bring textiles, recycling, building materials, appliances and metal goods to Elgin Mills, the City says, and York takes regular garbage there too, for a fee. The centre’s onsite camera feed refreshes every three minutes.

Electronics recycling at the York Region dump
In Markham, electronic waste goes in free at York’s Markham Household Hazardous Waste Depot, 430 Rodick Road, and at the City’s own recycling depots.
Every York waste depot takes residents’ electronic waste, free, up to 50 kg a household a day, with two TVs at most a visit. A device has to come in whole, with its packaging and batteries out and its personal data cleared by a factory reset.
York’s list includes cameras, cell phones and telephones, computer towers, keyboards, laptops and modems, DVD players, radios, stereos and speakers, monitors, printers and scanners, and TVs. An air conditioner goes in as a refrigerated appliance, and a lawn mower as scrap metal.
In Aurora, the Town also takes electronics at Town Hall, 100 John West Way, and the Aurora Community Centre, 1 Community Centre Lane, with TVs up to 32 inches.
Before you go to a York Region waste depot
Bring proof of a York Region home: the depots take residents’ waste generated in York Region.
Pack your garbage apart from your recyclables. To keep the free things free, unload what York charges for first and circle the site again with the free recyclables, or bring the recyclables on another day.
Household hazardous waste comes in its original or a clearly labelled container, sealed, with nothing mixed together, and the containers stay at the depot. York weighs a vehicle only to work out how much waste it is leaving.
Is there a dump in Markham, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Aurora or Newmarket?
York Region takes household garbage at its McCleary Court Community Environmental Centre, 130 McCleary Court in Vaughan, and its Elgin Mills Community Environmental Centre, 1124 Elgin Mills Road East in Richmond Hill. At 430 Rodick Road, York’s Markham Household Hazardous Waste Depot takes household hazardous waste and electronics, and the East Gwillimbury depot takes those, blue box recycling and scrap metal; neither takes garbage.
In Markham, the City points residents to York’s Elgin Mills centre for household garbage and blue box recycling. The City of Vaughan calls McCleary Court “The Vaughan location”, by Creditstone Road and Highway 7, and Woodbridge is in the City of Vaughan.
The City of Richmond Hill names Elgin Mills as the place its residents drop off materials. In Aurora, the Town says construction and demolition waste currently goes to York’s depots as garbage, for a fee, and it names York’s East Gwillimbury depot for electronics and batteries.
The Town of Newmarket says construction waste can go to the Georgina Transfer Station or a York Community Environmental Centre, with fees, and large items and scrap metal to select York depots.
Too much for one trip?
When a load is too big for a car or a trailer, Big Bin can bring a bin to the address. One price covers the delivery, the pickup and 7 days. Clean concrete or clean soil goes in a 14 yard bin of its own, with nothing else in it, for one flat price.
Big Bin delivers bins in Markham, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Aurora and Newmarket, in 14 yard, 30 yard and 40 yard sizes.
The bin size guide shows which size a load needs, what can go in a bin checks it item by item, bin and dumpster rental cost shows what a rental includes, and roll-off bins explained covers how the truck works.
For a renovation, see construction bin rental, or weigh a bin against junk removal. Get a quote for your address and dates.

Clothing and textiles are taken free too, and a load of only free items pays nothing.

Yes, free. York’s list includes barbecues, dishwashers, dryers, furnaces with the filters out, hot water tanks, lawnmowers drained of fluids, metal bathtubs, stoves, washing machines and microwaves.
