How garbage bin rental in East York works
Three steps. You tell us what is going in and where the bin can stand. A truck sets the empty bin on that spot, and later a truck takes it away full. Nobody usually has to be at the house for either visit. We need the exact spot, and room for the truck to get to it.
Our yard is in Mississauga, and the trucks that serve East York also go to North York, Scarborough, Etobicoke and Markham.
01
Tell us about the job
Call or email with what you are clearing, where the bin can stand, and when you need it.
02
The bin arrives
A truck sets the bin down where you asked. Nothing is emptied at your place: you or your crew fill it when it suits you.
03
It leaves full
The truck takes the whole bin away, and the load is weighed at the dump.
How much does garbage bin rental in East York cost?
Bin rentals from $718, before HST, for a 14 yard bin of household and renovation waste. There are two bills, from two different places. If the bin needs a Street Occupation Permit for the road or a lane, the City charges for it and you pay the City. Everything else is the rental, and an East York address adds nothing to it.
On the rental, the bin size and what goes in set the price. With household and renovation waste, the price includes some weight: 2 tonnes for a 14 yard bin, 3 tonnes for a 30 yard and 4 tonnes for a 40 yard. The full bin is weighed at the dump, and each tonne over what the price includes is added. The fill line marked on each bin shows how high to load it. Going over it costs extra, and so does keeping a bin past 7 days.
If the driver has no room to set the bin down on the day, that is a failed delivery. Bin rental prices lists it with the other extra charges.

How to keep an East York bin rental cheap
Keep the bin on your own land in East York and the City’s daily permit fee never starts. Out on the road or in a lane, that fee runs for as long as the bin stands there.
Pick the smallest bin the job fits in, since a second bin is a second charge, and a heavy load costs no less in a bigger bin. Keep a concrete or soil load clean, so it stays at its one flat price. And plan the days: only the days past the 7 included cost extra.
Can a bin go on your driveway in East York?
Yes, on your own land, with no permit. The City’s street by-law, the same across Toronto, counts the strip between the road and the property line as part of the street, so the bottom of an East York driveway, by the road, can be City land.
Anywhere past your property line in East York, on the road or in a public lane, a bin has to have the City’s Street Occupation Permit. Call 311 to find your local permit office.
The permit reaches no further than the road along your own lot: past that, the neighbour’s written consent is needed.
Right now, you make the permit application yourself; Big Bin does not.
| What is charged | Per day, 2026 |

Where is the dump in East York?
East York residents can take garbage, renovation waste and yard waste to the City of Toronto’s Drop-Off Depots, for a fee by weight. Going by the City’s own figures, a 205 kg load of garbage comes to $38.92 source [5].
The depots are Bermondsey, Commissioners, Disco, Dufferin, Ingram, Victoria Park and the depot at 1 Transfer Place, Scarborough. Each one, with its own rules, is set out in Toronto dump: hours, fees and what it takes.
Each depot is part of a City transfer station, and from there the City trucks its garbage onward: most of it ends up at Green Lane Landfill, just outside London, Ontario, a landfill the City owns in Southwold Township.
With garbage, renovation waste, metal or yard waste, your first stop is the scale; a vehicle carrying nothing but hazardous waste or electronics goes straight to its own drop-off area. A deposit of $40 source [5] or more comes next, in cash or on a credit or debit card, and you empty the vehicle yourself.
| What you have | Where it goes | On what terms |
|---|---|---|
| Garbage and renovation waste | Any depot; clean drywall, up to a tonne, at Bermondsey, Commissioners and Ingram | $19 source [5] for the first 100 kg, then $189.86 source [5] a tonne |
| Metal | Bermondsey, Commissioners, Dufferin or Ingram | $142.40 source [5] a tonne on the whole load; under 20 kg free |
| Yard waste | Any depot | $142.40 source [5] a tonne on the whole load; under 20 kg free |
| Household hazardous waste and electronics | Any depot but Dufferin | Free |
| Bricks, concrete, soil and sand | Not taken at any depot | — |
| Soil with nothing else in it, by the bin | A 14 yard bin from Big Bin | One flat price, with no weight charge |

Garbage and junk removal in East York
In East York, a rented bin takes the junk from a clear-out and the waste from a renovation together: furniture, mattresses, household contents, scrap metal, drywall, cabinets, tile and branches. If something is unusual, call 416-458-4324 before the bin arrives. To choose between a bin and junk removal, see Bin rental or junk removal?
On daytime collection, the City empties an East York house’s garbage bin every two weeks, on a day that depends on your address. Extra garbage that won’t fit under the closed lid needs a bag, a City tag and a spot beside the bin, with no bag over 20 kg; tags are $6.81 source [14] each in 2026.
Set furniture, appliances or a mattress beside the garbage bin on pickup day and the City takes them away as oversized items. The yearly charge for that service, $23.23 source [14] in 2026, is on every house’s bill, used or not.
The pickup also takes box springs, lamps, luggage, skis, toilets, furnaces and hot water heaters. Space the items half a metre apart, remove appliance doors first, and tie carpet in rolls up to four feet long and 20 kg.
Renovation waste is another matter: the curb won’t take construction, demolition or renovation debris, so for a kitchen, basement or roof job, a residential bin takes it. You can also ask the City to pause your collection while you renovate, for six months or more.
Weigh your load before you book
Give the calculator the length, width and height of the pile and what it is made of, and it gives back a rough weight for your load.
Which trash bin size suits an East York job?
All three of our bins come to East York: 14, 30 or 40 yard. Two questions pick the size: what is going in, and how much of it there is.
What is going in comes first. Concrete and soil each go in a 14 yard bin of their own, never together, and either one is priced flat, with no charge for weight. Keep them clean too: if anything else is in with them, the bin is not taken away. If you have filled the bin by the time that is found, a charge applies as well. Asphalt is not a material Big Bin takes, in any bin size. Big Bin does not take contaminated soil. To see why concrete gets its own bin, read Concrete disposal.
How much comes second. A garage clear-out or a basement of old furniture fills a bin by space, not by weight. If a bin fills up before the job is done, a second bin costs extra, so leave some room when you choose. To compare the three bins side by side, see the Bin size guide.
How big is each bin?
| Bin | Measurements | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| 14 yard | 4'1" high × 11'6" long × 7'6" wide | Gutting a bathroom or kitchen, a garage clear-out, one room taken down to the wall frame. |
| 30 yard | 5'4" high × 20' long × 7'6" wide | A full renovation, clearing out a house, a mid-size demolition. |
| 40 yard | 7' high × 20' long × 7'6" wide | A whole-house renovation, fitting out a store or office, a long building job. |
Before a bin comes to your East York address, look at the way in as well as the spot. The truck needs about 25 feet of headroom to lift its bed, 10 feet of width and 65 feet of straight, clear space to back in. These are rough numbers, so call and describe the spot if yours is tighter.

Renting a bin in East York: common questions
Do I need a permit for a bin in East York?
No permit is needed for a bin on your own land, but the bottom of a driveway, by the road, can be City land. Out on an East York street or in a public lane, the City charges a daily fee for its Street Occupation Permit. Right now, you get that permit yourself; Big Bin does not apply for it.
Where is the dump in East York?
East York residents use the City’s Drop-Off Depots: Bermondsey, Commissioners, Disco, Dufferin, Ingram, Victoria Park and the depot at 1 Transfer Place, Scarborough. Each trip with garbage or renovation waste starts with a deposit of $40 source [5] or more; then it’s $19 source [5] for the first 100 kg and $189.86 source [5] for every tonne past that. For each depot’s hours and rules, read Toronto dump: hours, fees and what it takes.
How much does garbage bin rental cost in East York?
Bin rentals from $718, before HST, for a 14 yard bin of household and renovation waste. That price includes delivery, pickup and 7 days. Weight over what a bin includes adds to it, and so do a load above the fill line and a bin kept longer. The price is the same anywhere in East York. The City’s permit for a bin on an East York street or lane is $73.89 + HST source [1] a day in 2026. Get your own price online.
What can go in a bin in East York?
Furniture, mattresses, household contents, wood, drywall, cabinets, tile, carpet, roofing shingles, scrap metal, fencing and branches can go in a bin of household and renovation waste. Asphalt is not a material Big Bin takes, in any bin size. Big Bin does not take contaminated soil. Paint, propane tanks, batteries and tires stay out of the bin and go to a drop-off of their own. East York households can take paint, batteries, propane tanks and other household hazardous waste, and electronics, to any City drop-off depot except Dufferin, free of any charge. If something is unusual, call 416-458-4324 before the bin arrives. For the rest, item by item, see What can go in a bin.
