When should you rent a residential dumpster?

Book it for the day your project starts making waste, so everything goes straight into the bin instead of piling up in the garage or on the lawn.

The smallest bin your load fits in costs the least. Shingles, tile and plaster use up the weight that comes with a bin much sooner than furniture or boxes, and the free weight calculator tells you what your pile weighs.

To compare the 14, 30 and 40 yard bins, the bin size guide sets out what each one holds.

What residential waste can go in a bin?

A bin takes the household and renovation waste of a home job, mixed together in one load.

Some things stay out of the bin and have a drop-off of their own: paint, propane tanks, batteries and tires. In Toronto, paint, propane tanks and batteries go free to a City Drop-Off Depot, and in Halton, the Region’s waste site takes tires free, up to ten a day. The Mississauga dump, Brampton dump, Toronto dump, York Region dump, Oshawa dump, Milton dump and Hamilton dump guides say what each area’s sites take.

Clean concrete or clean soil goes in a bin of its own, with nothing else in it. Item by item, What can go in a bin has the rest.

What residential waste can go in a bin?
What you haveWhat goes in
Demolition and framingWood, offcuts, studs, trim, subfloor, plaster, drywall, insulation, roofing shingles.
Cabinets, doors, windows and floorsCabinets, countertops, doors, windows, laminate, hardwood, tile, carpet and underpad.
Clear-outFurniture, mattresses, boxes, packaging, household contents, scrap metal.
OutdoorsFencing, decking, sod, branches and brick from a landscaping job.
Brick, with other wasteBrick goes in with other household and renovation waste, but it is heavy for its size: the price includes 2 to 4 tonnes of weight, by bin size, and each tonne over that costs extra. Brick uses up that weight fast.
If something is unusual, call 416-458-4324 before the bin arrives.

Can you use a bin for residential junk removal?

Yes. You load the bin yourself, at your own pace, and the truck takes the whole bin away when you’re done.

Nobody usually has to be home when the truck brings the bin or takes it away.

Fridges, freezers and air conditioners never go in a bin, and What can go in a bin explains why.

To weigh up a bin against a junk removal crew, see Bin rental or junk removal?

Can a bin go on your driveway?

Yes, if the truck can reach it. The truck needs about 25 feet of headroom to lift its bed, 10 feet of width and 65 feet of straight, clear space to back in. These are rough numbers, so call and describe the spot if yours is tighter.

Boards go down first, under every bin, as part of the price.

On your own land, a bin needs no permit, but part of a driveway near the road can be city land.

On the road, the city’s rules apply, as in Toronto and Hamilton, and on a Regional road the Region’s, as in Mississauga and Brampton.

How much does residential bin rental cost?

Bin rentals from $718, before HST, for a 14 yard bin of household and renovation waste. That price covers delivery, pickup, 7 days and the weight that comes with your bin, and the price includes fuel.

Weight over what your bin includes, and extra days, are charged by the tonne and by the day.

When a bin of household and renovation waste is full, we can take it away and leave an empty one. A swap costs the same as the delivery trip for that bin size, and the new bin comes with its own included weight and a fresh 7 days.

Bin rental prices lists every charge, and bin and dumpster rental cost explains each one.

How heavy is your pile?

Tell the calculator what your pile is and how much of it there is, and it works out what your load weighs.

Residential bin rental: common questions

How do you get a dumpster at your house?

Call or email us, or fill in the quote form, with what you’re throwing out, the spot for the bin and the days you need it. A truck sets the bin down in that spot, you fill it, and the truck comes back for it when you’re done. The full bin is weighed at the dump. We take orders at these hours: Monday to Friday, 6:00 am – 6:00 pm. Saturday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. Sunday, closed. Order by 3PM and a bin can come the next day.

Can you rent a dumpster before moving out?

Yes. Book it for the days you pack, and fill it as you go. The price includes 7 days, and a quote prices any extra days you need. Nobody usually has to be home for the pickup, so the bin can go after you’ve moved out.

Can you rent a bin just for household garbage?

Yes, for the bulky waste of a clear-out: boxes, packaging, furniture and household contents can fill a bin on their own, at the same price as a load with renovation waste in it.
